Truly Free
Read Jeremiah 6 - 7
Jeremiah 7:25-26 From the day your ancestors left Egypt until now, I have continued to send my prophets — day in and day out. 26 But my people have not listened to me or even tried to hear. They have been stubborn and sinful — even worse than their ancestors.
AT THIS time to celebrate our nation’s freedom, it is sad to note most of humanity is chained to misery.
Look around, and you will see friends, family and neighbors who revel in ignorance of God. They tell of the trouble and strife in life. But when you offer God’s love and mercy, they reject it out of hand, saying, “Oh, I believe in God.”
But they don’t. They have no idea who he is. If they did believe in God, they’d be on their knees seeking forgiveness and asking, “What should we do to satisfy God?” (John 6:28) If they believed in God, they’d be hungry to know what he says and to do what he says. If they believed in God, they would know he loves them deeply because he has created them in his image.
Satisfying God begins when one believes in the sin penalty of eternal Hell and God’s loving freedom call to save you. That freedom call is Jesus saying, “Come, follow me.” The freedom call is Jesus saying in Matt 6:31-33 “Your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well what you need, 33 and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.”
Yes, freedom comes in faith that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Freedom is the truth of eternal life in Heaven.
Just as in the days of Jeremiah, God comes to the world, offering his freedom. Are you ready to say, “Show me your way, Lord. I want to be free in you.”
Pause and Consider: that only Jesus offers true freedom.
