Get Away from Me!
Matthew 4:10 Jesus
said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your
God, and serve him only.’”
WHEN you consider Jesus’ life, you may have memorized
certain words as a “life verse”—words you can use to help you live in faith
every day with Jesus. Matthew 4:10 is a great life verse.
Have you ever
said, “Away from me, Satan! For it is
written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” You should. You should say it every day. You
should pray it. You should claim it. You should have it on your heart and in
your mind. You should make it part of your soul.
I know. All the “I
should’s” sound bossy, but I can’t stress this enough. Satan and his demons are
in hot pursuit of your soul. They desperately seek to destroy your relationship
with Jesus and your relationship with anything that, as Paul says in Philippians 4:8 is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable
— if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.
Yes, when you have
evil thoughts, thoughts that oppose Jesus, your family, and whatever is pure,
lovely, noble and praiseworthy, say to the devil, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.’”
In the power of
Jesus, you are a child of Jesus who has died to pull you from Hell and to point
you Heavenward. In response, you must (James 4:7) Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee
from you.
