September 23, 2013 Humble Trust

Read Psalms 143:8

Humble Trust

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

ON Sunday as I spoke of “Love is not proud.” from 1 Corinthians 13:4, I spent some time pointing to the life of King David, king of Israel. David’s life was generally a life of humble adoration of God. But there were times David pridefully rejected God’s ways for his own ways.
God deflated David’s pride though the Prophet Nathan speaking God’s judgment to David. The reason David realized his sin and repented is this: He had placed God’s Word on his heart throughout his life. David lived in faith everyday acknowledging God’s sovereign authority over the world and over his life. As he slipped and fell deeply into the pit of sin, God reached in to pull him out. David took God’s hand because he loved God.
Psalm 143:8 reflects David’s mindset. He arose in the morning seeking God’s unfailing love. He had experienced God’s love in so many ways—from his anointing to be King, the triumph over Goliath, and his rescue from Saul’s evil hand.
As he experienced God’s unfailing love, he knew he could trust God, even in his repentance. He faithfully knew God would show him the true way to live, and he was willing to follow his Lord’s leading. David “lifted his soul” to God—he made God high and majestic in his life above all things, even above his sin.
I want to encourage you in this. If you are dealing with a sin issue you think is too big for God, stop being prideful. Let go and trust God. Lift up your soul to him, and God will forgive you.

A Moment’s Thought: Write Psalm 143:8 oh your heart and know God loves you.
