Read 1 Peter 2
Taste the Savior
2 Like newborn babies,
crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3
now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
HOW did yesterday taste? Sound weird? Essentially I have
just asked you, “Was yesterday a good experience for you? If you need a better
taste of life, here’s a taste of Jesus.
As David says “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed
is the man who takes refuge in him.” (Psalms 34:8) and as Peter says here, “now that you have tasted that the Lord is
good.” they are expressing the good ways they have experienced God.
Both of these men
had wonderful experiences with God, and both men suffered greatly as God
anointed them for his kingdom purposes. Sometimes God calls us to taste
suffering, so we can truly taste the Lord’s sweet peace.
Peter continues, “To this (suffering) you were called,
because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow
in his steps. 22 ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’ 23
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered,
he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins
and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were
like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer
of your souls. (1 Peter 2:21-25).
Suffering with the
One who suffered allows you to taste the depth of his love for you. Drink his
love slowly and allow it to settle into you. Taste the Lord and find refuge in
him.
A Moment’s Thought: Tasting begins the feast.
