Great Love
Read Revelation 1
Rev 1:14-15 His head
and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing
fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like
the sound of rushing waters.
YOU’RE probably saying, “Oh, no. Revelation! Forget it. I’ll never understand it.” Yes, perhaps the
account of God’s victory over sin is too grand to hold onto. But be encouraged
that it is a picture of God’s higher, wider, deeper and longer love.
Revelation is a book of battle, of
worship, of glory, of victory. C’mon, you can do it. Let’s spend 3 weeks in
“this vision” to see what we will learn of God’s great love for you.
To begin, when
Jesus comes to John, he is clothed in his glory. “Glory” depicts holiness, and
God’s holiness is a fearful thing against our sin. Jesus’ appearance sounds
scary, brilliant, wonderful and glorious. He radiated with all the brilliant
light of God’s glory. This tells us why everyone in the Bible who saw a visitor
from God was afraid. Sin cannot stand before perfection.
Even though John,
Jesus’ disciple, had walked with Jesus, the man, when he saw Jesus, the Son of
Man, he fell down in fear. When Jesus told John to write, that’s exactly what
John did. How can a disciple disobey the Holy One?
Actually that’s a
good question. How can we confess Jesus, “Lord.’ and then say, “No.” to Jesus,
the One clothed in majesty, the One who has defeated sin for us?
John obeyed, and
here we are today, reading what he wrote, leaning of God’s great love for us,
and wondering, “What, Jesus, are you saying to me?”
You, who have an
ear, listen to Jesus in his majesty and truth. That’s what Jesus’ disciples do.
A Moment’s Thought: The majestic Lord speaks to you.
