September 25, 2012 God's Glory

God’s Glory Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. HABAKKUK is one of the prophets who spoke to Israel in the years before their exile to Babylon. Reading his message, you will see, as you do with the other prophets, many words of warning to his people. These are words that come from God, and God’s people must heed them. God wants his people to change before the day when God will fill the earth with “the knowledge of the glory of the Lord”. What does that mean? Habakkuk was God’s intercessor. He was a go-between, and he told Israel God was holding back from demonstrating his full power of judgment on his people as he gave them an opportunity to turn to him in faith. But there would come a day when God’s glory would become known through his judgment power as he could no longer tolerate his people’s sin. On that day, the glory of the Lord would bring God’s judgment and wrath upon his people. And they would begin to understand that God’s glory, his perfection and holiness, could not tolerate their evil. As God’s people were filled with this knowledge, they would clearly see their sin before him. In their guilt, they would seek forgiveness. As God forgave them one day, they would see even more the evidence of God’s glory in his salvation. God’s glory is clear to you when you see your wrongs, ask for forgiveness, and adjust your life to obey him. When the knowledge of God’s glorious perfection and his unending love is in your heart, mind and soul, you will turn to worship him, to experience the fullness of his glory as the waters cover the sea. It’s True! Know God, and you will receive his glory in your heart.
