Read 2 Samuel 14-15
Risk the Wounds
2 Sam 14:14 But God
does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may
not remain estranged from him.
KING David, the one who has conquered a giant, subdued
nations and forged a new nation is incapable of going to his son and saying, “I
love you. Let’s work this out.” In this scripture a woman sent by David’s
commander Joab reminds David that God devises ways to join people together. God’s
son Adam sinned and left the household. But God pursued the children of Adam to
bring us home.
Awakened to his
grievous error of indifference, fear and judgment, David called Absalom back
home. But he really didn’t. In essence he invited Absalom home but left him
sitting on the front step. He was unwilling to truly care for and restore his
son to himself. Isn’t it easier to live separate from one’s son than to deal
with the wounds of restoration? David certainly knew some of the wounds to heal
were his own.
God, your heavenly
Father, unencumbered by human sin loving enters into the conflicts of your
heart to draw you to him. His Son, Jesus, suffered the wounds of healing to join
you to the Father. “But he was pierced
for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that
brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isa 53:5)
David needed,
also, to suffer through the wounds and strive to heal the wounds.
Parents, is there
something separating you from your children? Face the sure wounds and say to
your child, “I love you. Let’s figure out how we can live together.”
A Moment’s Thought: Wounds will heal in the b alm of Jesus’
love.
