How
Long?
Exodus
10
Ex 10:7 Then Pharaoh's
servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men
go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt
is ruined?”
FROM one day to the next, one horrible,
stifling plague to the next, God was destroying Egypt. This beautiful powerful nation
that historians say had extensive libraries of knowledge regarding astronomy,
natural science, crop production, architecture and philosophy was disappearing
bit by bit. The Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let go of his power and spiritually
submit the throne of Egypt to the Lord God. And the servants knew how foolish their
leader was.
They
implored Pharaoh to listen to Moses! See what God had done with Moses. He took
this shepherd man out of the desert, out of his hiding from his crimes and out
of his isolation from his people. He put Moses into such a powerful position
the people of Pharaoh’s court said, “Listen to him!” They knew Moses had a
power no one in Egypt could contend against.
What
would happen if the church today would point each other to the preaching of God’s
Word and say, “Listen to those words! Do you not yet understand our nation is
ruined? Do you know those words are the greatest power on earth?” But sadly, our
hearts and mind are too close to Pharaoh’s hard heart. We ignore God’s warnings
and words to repent of our sin. Day by day, we watch our lives slowly—sometimes
suddenly—crumble around us as we fail to grasp the power of the Lord God to
save us from our self-desires.
I
wonder how long our own wills will be a snare to us.
