Certain Power
Exodus 15
Ex 15:18 “The Lord
will reign forever and ever.”
GOD’s people had experienced a great
deliverance from Egypt’s slavery and certain re-capture and death from Egypt’s
army. And how did they respond? They sang a song to the Lord. You read of the
Song of Moses and the song of his sister Miriam. There were many words of
celebration to praise God.
Although
Psalm 47 was written centuries after this event, I’m sure that psalm describes
the way God’s people celebrated God that day. For example, “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome
is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth! He subdued nations
under us, peoples under our feet. (Psalm 47:1-3) The psalm goes on to say “Sing
praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God
is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.” (Vs 6-7) Yes, it was a day of
praising God!
But
(And there’s always a “but”, isn’t there?) read on, and you will see God’s
people need water. And then what did they do? The singing stopped, and the
complaining began. So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we
to drink?” (V 24)
Faith
one day turns to fear and frustration the next day, so let’s blame the guy in
charge. There’s no desire to say, “Let’s pray. Let’s seek God’s leading.” There
is no remembering, “The Lord will reign forever and ever.” There is only desire
to forget God’s power and blame Him for our problems. We have short memories,
don’t we?
LIFE Link: Be certain—the Lord of miracles does
reign forever and ever.
