They Will Know
Exodus 14
Ex 14:4 “And I will
harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for
myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am
the Lord.”
&
Ex 14:27 Moses
stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its
place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the
sea.
THE night had been long, dark and scary. The
Red Sea was in front of them, and they had no place to go. “Why, God” the
Hebrews asked, “did you bring us to this point to die? We could have been safely
away from Egypt’s army!”
We
ask, “Why?” often when the nights are dark and scary don’t we? “God, do you
lead me to the places that are so hard. Why do my friends and family members
suffer, even die too young? It would be so easy to have an easy life.”
God’s
purpose in his people’s fearsome night on the shore of the Red Sea was to
plainly show his protective power to his people and to Egypt. He was developing
a reputation as a saving, merciful God to those he called to be his own.
That
has not changed today. As God has chosen
you, he will come powerfully to your life when you call out to him amid the
troubled places he leads you. He will comfort you in your grief and restore you
to firm footing as he calls you to walk forward in life trusting him.
Sadly,
some of our friends and family die too young or suffer so very, very much. That
should cause us to rejoice even more in the God who offers eternal safety and
joy to all who believe in Him.
