God Brings
Exodus 19
Ex 19:4 “‘You
yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’
wings and brought you to myself.”
SETTLE your mind for a moment and consider
God’s words, “how I carried you on eagles’
wings and brought you to myself.” Who formed the union between God and his
people?
In
the verb “brought” we are reminded of another union God formed. “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib
he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” (Genesis 2:22)
God created man. God created woman. Then God brought them together to form a perfect,
complete union. This couple was to go and bless the world as God’s
representatives, obeying his command to “rule
over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all
the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (Gen 1:26)
In
that same manner, then, God created a nation and brought the people to himself.
He set them apart out of the world, then out of Egypt that they would bless the
world as they obeyed God’s commands.
Ultimately
the Jews would bless the world when God “brought” his Savior to the earth to
die on a cross for the forgiveness of our sins. The Father and the Son then “brought” the Holy Spirit
into the world to bless you with the understanding of your sin and Jesus’ saving
death.
In
essence, God has brought, through his people, his Son and his Spirit, eternal
life to you.
LIFE Link: For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and
blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons
through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. (Ephesians
1:4-5)
