He Must Go
Matthew 16:21 From
that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to
Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and
teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised
to life.
THE Bible teaches us “In
love he predestined us to be adopted as his children through Jesus Christ, in
accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace,
which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” (Eph 1:4-6)
Stop now. Do you
call on the name of Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Then get up and praise God
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as you consider Holy Scripture’s truth: in
eternity past, God formed your destiny to be forever with Him.
Consider in awe
that you are the reason Jesus unveiled to his disciples the terrible news of
his suffering and death to come. Jesus “must go” not because he wants to but
because his death on the cross is as definite an act as are the Creation, the
Flood, the Exodus, the Exile and Incarnation of Christ.
The Father has
only one way to make way for you to be born again, and that is to kill His Son
and then raise him to life. Your eternal life flows from God’s eternal purpose.
Yes, rejoice “the third day be raised to life.” This
is the Gospel message. His disciples would rebel against it. Yet, our
unrelenting, triune God passionately pursued death, so he would rise and conquer
Satan’s Great Intrusion into His good creation.
Now think. What
must you do to tell someone how Jesus turned terrible news into Good News?
LIFE Link: We must be unrelenting.
