Gospel Truth
Matthew 11:27-29 “All
things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the
Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him.”
THE press secretary for the President of the United States speaks
for the president only what he is told. But he cannot speak the president’s
words without first hearing the president’s words. And the president can’t know
the press secretary’s possible questions regarding the president’s words unless
the secretary asks him. They must communicate clearly so the secretary
announces clearly to the world.
In some ways, that
is what Jesus is saying here, but he is also saying so much more. Jesus knows
exactly what the Father wants to tell the world, and the Father knows exactly
what the Son will tell the world without any spoken communication between them.
Jesus’ words are an expression and confirmation of the Son of God and the
Father God as One. In some versions of the Bible, it defines this inseparable
unity through the word “begotten” as in John
3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)
“Begotten” essentially means the Son came from the Father in the fullness of God to do the saving work of God. The Father sent the Son as Savior.

This is essential
to the Christian faith. Jesus is Immanuel, God made flesh, in order to be our
Savior. He has accomplished this purpose as he lived among us, died on a cross,
rose from the tomb and ascended to heaven. From there he will return as Judge
and King. This is the Gospel that we would be saved if we believe this.
