With a Word
Matthew 8:16-17 When
evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove
out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill
what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and
carried our diseases.”
DOES God’s word still have authority? Matthew records that
Jesus “drove out the spirits with a word
and healed all the sick.” Jesus spoke. Demons went home. Disease turned to
health. Jesus needed only to say the word, and the salvation of healing came to
many.
Does Jesus, the
Living Word, carry such authority to speak healing today? Let’s consider the
healing power of these words: So in
everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. (Matt 7:12) Jesus
preached these words to his people, so they would demonstrate love and care for
one another. When obeyed these words bring peace to conflict, joy to families, and
even churches are healed from jealousies and division.
How about these
words: In the same way, let your light
shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in
heaven. (Matt 5:16) We all know people who shine the light of biblical
teaching. They are agents of the Spirit’s fruits. They are good shepherds
leading people to Christ.
And how about this
testimony: Worldwide, as the Word of God is preached, over 3,000 people come to
faith in Christ daily in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Living Word still
calls demons out of people, still heals sin’s infirmities.
And yes, people I know
and likely many of you do, too, have been healed of physical disease when the
word of God is spoken over them.
