The King
Matthew 8:28-29 When
he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two
demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no
one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they
shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
A king has total control. Whatever he says must happen. With
one word a king’s authority could mean life or death for one who lives in his kingdom.
As in this scripture,
the Bible often records how the demons submit to the King of Kings, the Lord
Jesus Christ. They know without question that Jesus, the Son of God, is the one
who will condemn them to eternal punishment “Have
you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” There is no debate, no question and no
equivocation. Demons know Jesus’ power is ultimate. The only question is when
will he act? When the Christ acts, the Christ acts, and nothing will hold him
back.
Jesus’ disciples
are in the process of learning what the demons know. They have seen him
magnificently act to heal and calm storms. His preaching is the authority of
God. They would now have heard the demons speak to their rabbi. Strange, isn’t
it, that even demons can proclaim testimony of the Christ?
How about you? Do
you call Jesus your king? If so, you are a subject of the King, and you are
subject to the King. Receive his words as the authority over your life. Pray
for mercy in the authority of Jesus to forgive sins. Pray for his kingly power
to heal the broken relationships and heal the hurts in your life.
Pray to Jesus as
the ultimate authority of your life because he is.
LIFE Link: The King reigns.
