Gospel Owners
Matthew 13:52 He said
to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the
kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new
treasures as well as old.”
A home has been given to you. It is filled with the
necessities for life – good food and clean water. Even more the home is filled
with comfortable furniture; it has a nice bed, you find closets full of clothes
for all sizes and seasons. Because you own the home, you can give any of your
new treasures to anyone you desire.
One of Jesus’
consistent teachings to his disciples – and you’ve heard this many, many times –
is to make use of the Gospel that is given to you. We will make good use of the
Gospel when we understand that we who have heard the Gospel and receive it in faith
are “like the owner of a house who brings
out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
Jesus urgently
tells us to take ownership in God’s Word. Then, as if you have would search for
the treasures of your new home, purposefully move through the Bible’s teachings.
You will continually uncover more and more wonderful necessities for a full,
treasured life with Christ now and forevermore. The Bible’s treasures will
bring to you great comfort to fit all sizes of troubles in your life. And even
more, God’s treasures will guide you to richly celebrate God’s blessings on your
life.
And remember, good
ownership of God’s Gospel gift also includes inviting others to “come in” and
enjoy God’s loving truths. Feed friends and strangers the good food of your
great gift. Clothe them in comfort. Help to sit down and rest with Jesus.
