August 18, 2014 Broken for You

Broken for You

Matthew 14:18-21 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women.

WHAT a beautiful picture of salvation is this scene as Jesus “gave thanks and broke the loaves.” Then he passed the bread to the hungry.
No one paid for their bread that day. It was a gift. All were in need of bread to eat in this remote place. It was filling. The hungry in need of a meal were fed, and they were satisfied. Jesus had prepared a feast, and the crowd ate freely of what he had given to them.
Jesus would later break bread before his disciples as “he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’” (Luke 22:19)
Yes, as Jesus broke the bread that day in the desert, the Father would break the Son’s body, the Bread of Life, on the cross. From Jesus’ broken body, his death and burial would rise the eternal bread for our souls.
Praise God that when we are cast out in the desert of our sin, he offers us the Bread of Life. Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension are your eternal food. Take, eat the Holy Word of God. Receive Christ. Be filled forevermore.

LIFE Link: Jesus fills your hunger.
