August 6, 2014 Hear

Hear

Matthew 13:41-43 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

“Listen!” Jesus says. I count about 29 times in the Gospels Jesus speaks, “Listen!” and of the life-changing power of listening. “Listen” means to pay strict attention so the words move past the ear drums and into the heart. To listen is to have ears to hear so sharply God’s Word knifes down deep into your soul.
We must sharply hear God speak into our soul if we are to be saved. Stop now and listen clearly to the Teacher’s words describing the tragic and terrifying judgment. Everything that causes evil will be thrown into the fiery furnace. Weeds burn quickly and completely. The sinners will hear the Son of Man speak judgment, and they will hear no more.
I pray you are disturbed to hear this truth. Listen, then, to hear the hope for the righteous. The righteous are those who listen intently to God’s Word and do His Word because he says so. The righteous listen and obey, knowing full well who has spoken. The righteous make no excuses for disobedience. They repent because they know they have not done God’s Word, and they turn to live God’s Word. The Spirit has knifed the truth into the hearts of the righteous.
The righteous are the sunrise over each day. They live in hope for the day the Son of Man speaks. They bring hope to the world. Listen to them speak the Teacher’s words.
