Matthew 12:39-41 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.”

WE see life from our point-of-view, don’t we? For example, people who farm see the land through a “production lens” while people who hunt see the land through the “recreation lens”.
Israel was unable to see God through their “sin lens”. The Word of God had been specifically revealed to them through 1500 years in the miracles of Egypt, the Law and the prophets. God had shown himself through the temple, the exile and God himself come to be among them. Yes, sadly Israel’s sin kept them blind to the Word, even as He stood among them. Only a miraculous lens change would enable some to see God.
Jesus says that the lens change will come to some in the “sign of the prophet Jonah”. Jonah in the whale for 3 days is a miracle that pictures Jesus’ 3 days in the tomb. Out of the whale, Jonah preached God’s Word to Ninevah. The city believed the Word, repented and was saved.
Out of the tomb has come the Gospel. As the Gospel is preached, some believe the Word and are saved. Their lens is changed to salvation.

LIFE Link: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:30)
