August 11, 2014 Who is He?

Who is He?

Matthew 13:53-55 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” 58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

LET’S begin with verse 58. Does Jesus require faith in us before he does miracles? The Bible very clearly answers, “No.” For example, He opened the eyes of a blind man who didn’t know him, and he raised two young men who had died. Even more, in an example of salvation, he speaks to the woman at the well in Samaria to offer her the forgiveness of her sins. As she repents, “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” (John 4:39)
When the people of Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown spoke great doubt that he was the Messiah, Jesus chose to hold back his healing. He is demonstrating God’s choice to do as He wills. He is not a puppet, a butler or a programmed robot who comes to us as we desire. He is not even tied to human belief and unbelief. He is King of the Kingdom, Lord and Savior. Jesus’ will is the Father’s will to act for the good of mankind.
